Made to Order Wool Tartan Handfast Ribbon

Handfasts form part of an ancient Celtic tradition still used in wedding ceremonies in Scotland. Traditionally, a piece of cloth was tied around the engaged couple's held hands during a handfasting ceremony which symbolised the joining of two lives and two families. This is where the expression 'tying the knot' comes from. It is traditional to have a tartan ribbon representing each of the wedding couple to showcase the union of their two families.

Stewart Christie & Co. wool tartan handfast ribbons are available as one ribbon single sided with one tartan, or one ribbon double sided with two tartans.

From £45 Made to Order. Handfasts take approximately 3-4 weeks to make.
